Cohen and Wolf's Lunch & Learn Series: Legal Aspects of Family Formation for the LGBTQ+ Community
As part of our annual Pride Month 2022 celebration, Cohen and Wolf’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee welcomed Attorney Victoria (Vicki) Ferrara to its Lunch and Learn Series on June 29, 2022 to talk about surrogacy and assisted reproductive technology law for the LGBTQ+ community. As Legal Director and Founder of Worldwide Surrogacy Specialists, LLC and Principal and Owner of The Ferrara Law Group, P.C., Attorney Ferrara has been working to help the LGBTQ+ community for over 30 years.
Reminding us that we have a lot to celebrate, Attorney Ferrara highlighted decades of progress for preserving LGBTQ+ rights in Connecticut – which is the first state to permit the Rainbow flag to be flown at its state capitol.
Attorney Ferrara continued to engage our attorneys in a discussion of law related to building a family through surrogacy, egg donation, sperm donation and adoption for Connecticut LGBTQ+ families who want to establish legal parentage. With a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, she emphasized the importance of knowing how to advise clients, including establishing clear intentions, to protect their families.
“What we need is for people to be safe in the world,” Attorney Ferrara explained, "keeping children safe, parents and families stable.”
Attorney Ferrara chose to practice assisted reproduction technology law and surrogacy law because it allowed her to use her knowledge and skills to help create families. In 2016, she was awarded the LAMBDA award for outstanding LGBTQ community service.
We were honored to host Attorney Ferrara’s interesting and informative discussion at our Lunch and Learn Series for Pride Month, and are thankful for her time and insight.
