Cohen and Wolf's Lunch & Learn Series: Bridgeport Caribe Youth Leaders

09.24.2024

In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we welcomed John Torres, Executive Director of Bridgeport Caribe Youth Leaders, affectionately known as Caribe, to a DEI Lunch and Learn session on September 24, 2024.

John shared Caribe’s history, which began in 2003 as a youth baseball league and has grown in the past two decades into a youth development organization focused on enriching lives through sports, education, and community.  Caribe offers programming for students in kindergarten through high school in a variety of programs, with many Caribe “graduates” returning to serve as coaches, mentors, board members, and in other capacities for the organization.

Central to our theme of National Hispanic Heritage Month, John discussed the need to “level the playing field” for students and provide resources, a supportive environment, and inspiration. Notably, Caribe has provided $1.4 million in scholarships to 145 students.

As a long-time partner to Caribe, our attorneys present on legal careers, participate in mock interview events, and contribute to other community service events throughout the year.
